i recently picked up a 6 hp johnson at a yard sale. got it running with some help from folks here and am satisfied with how it runs. it however was on a sailboat and has a x-long shaft- leg-whatever. mechanic at the local johnson dealer says it can be converted to a 15" by changing the drive shaft and shift rod. he suggested finding some used parts. i have looked on i-boats and they don't carry anything like this i can find. a google search turns up a lot of marine salvage places but i've not had much luck there either. has anyone here got some good experiences with a well equipped salvage yard they could share if that is acceptable on this board (not sure about the rule regarding)? i live on the coast of nc but there apparently aren't many 6 hp johnsons around.<br />th

Ya' might try some local maineas. Maybe they got a short shaft laying around. That's really all you need.....and a short shift rod connector. The water tube can be cut to fit.
