im currently getting ready to convert a friends motor from long to short shaft. i was looking at the parts list, and from what i can tell, both the long and short shaft motors use a short driveshaft and the long shaft motor just has an extension on the water tube and the driveshaft...so am i crazy thinking that i can just pull the drive shaft insert off, shorten the water tube and take the shifter extension off and be good to go? i've never seen that before, i've always had to buy a shorter driveshaft. here are the parts for the long and short shaft versions...can someone confirm this for me.

long shaft

short shaft

i just cant find a part number for either motor for a 20" driveshaft...i feel like it cant be that simple

im just going to bump this once in the hope that someone knows. i think im right, but i don't want to take the lower unit apart until i know for sure. i would hate to see his motor going unused while i wait for a replacement shaft

It looks to me like the part number for the driveshaft is the same between models but that doesn't seem like it can be right? I also don't see any part numbers for a driveshaft extension. The long shaft upgrade kit only seems to include that spacer, some extra bolts, and a water tube extension. I'm not sure on this one, it sounds odd.
