ok boat : 1988 Bayliner Cuddy with Force 125

Guy locally selling it dirt cheap. i have a sport jet 90 reflexx which is a force 90 hp right? i cant get it to run steady so im alittle worried about the 125.

1 problem, he listed it as "Boat needs interior upholstery work and I am told the motor (Force125) has a bad cylinder"..

exactly what would be a "bad cylinder" he mean like a cracked block? or bad piston? or bad cylinder head?

let me know what you guys think!

What is dirt cheap? Tell us the asking price. The running condition of one motor does not dictate the condition of another. Upholstery work of any kind on a boat is an expense that often exceeds the value of the craft. (See first question.) Ask the seller what you are asking us. "Exactly what do you mean by a bad cylinder?" If he doesn't know, then you cannot make an educated or qualified offer. Walk away from this "project" vessel.

RUN "nothing cost more than a cheap boat.

It is unlikely the engine can be repaired with out major bucks.
When you find lots of bad items on the surface just think of what you cant see.

Bad cylinder, can cost $400 to $1800 to fix.Could be a bad head gasket or a bad piston.
Gotta remove the head to check.
The interior $500+++.
The motor's probably worth the effort to sell the parts.
Start another thread on the 90.If the compression is good it's worth fixing.
