Looking at summer storage

I will be moving to a larger city soon and will be in an apartment for the first year or so and that means I will not have a driveway to park the boat in. I was looking at parking for the boat at the type of places I will be renting, not looking good. Best I can figure is I will need a parking spot for my car then one/maybe two for the boat. Does this seem reasonable? Suggestions on other ideas for storing it for the summer? I know that I have winter storage on a family member's property that I visit in the fall anyway so the drive there is not an issue. My best idea was renting a parking spot in someone's lane way for $150 a month but that seems like it could be better somehow.

Depending on where you're moving to, look into storage facilities (rental units). There are a couple by me with parking spaces for cars, boats and RVs. VERY reasonable.

Some apartments have garages for rent or instead of renting an apartment, look at townhouses which often have garages.

Other than those ideas, Google boat/RV storage in the city you are moving to. What city? Some of our members are probably in the same boat and can offer their experiences.

Your best option will likely be a marina. Heck, I have my own driveway and a three car garage and I don't want the dam thing at the house taking up space.

Around here marina dry dock storage runs about 1000 to 1500 for the season. Very convenient. Drive the car or bike down, jump in the marina truck, launch boat with head of the line privaledges and off to the races.

depending on where you are moving to, you may want a rental facility lot with all the security that provides vs just a parking spot in a parking lot at an apartment complex

down here in Bradenton Florida, its about 60 per month in an un-secured lot or about $100 a month in a secured storage yard with cameras, fence and a guard

Thanks that sounds much better than I was looking at, I will take a look around and see what I can find around here.

A lane way is the same thing as a driveway of sorta, it is when you have a garage that backs onto a back lane that is between houses. Maybe it is a Canada thing...

ok. Here we would call that an alley.

If the boat is anything other than an aluminum utility boat, I would not let it sit unsecured in a city that large.

Google "toronto boat storage" there are many options.
From $60 to $1000 per month.
The marina option looks awfully darn expensive.

I've tried a few different summer storage solutions. I found the boat/rv/car storage facility route to be the cheapest by far ($50/month). The place I used was gated and they had cameras on premises, but I still didn't feel 100% safe leaving my boat there.
I now store my boat and trailer at a marina. It definitely costs more, but launch ramp usage is included in the price. Plus, security is much tighter. The convenience is worth it to me.

I needed a storage spot for my main boat because it is too big for the garage at my lake house and so I bought the neighbors property consisting of a house, garage and several outbuildings to store the boat. The house sits vacant and the garage is filled with my boats and equipment. It came with ten acres and so I plan to rent the house out and build a boat storage facility on the property as well. Kill three birds with one stone. Provide housing for someone in an ultra tight rental market, provide storage solutions for the other lake shore owners who are also in a storage bind and then have the investment of an appreciable asset.

Yep a Laneway is a Alley in the US. I don't envy your move to T.O. Toronto has it's own currency exchange rate. As soon as you hit the GTA my Canuck $ drops by 50%. Where are you going to be boating? Lake Ontario is closest but it's a big boat lake. Park it as close to where you boat. I would look into rates in Hamilton for storage.
