I'm in Chicago. I'm looking for a 225 Buick engine to mate with my omc out drive. Willing to travels bit if someone knows of one. Just really need the block, but a complete engine would be good for spares.

Thanks. The Lansing one looks perfect he said it is missing a flywheel and starter but has good compression in all cylinders and turns over by hand. All of my omc parts should bolt up correct? Do I need to change anything else out for marine application?

need to change the core plugs to brass, and need to change the head gaskets to marine (stainless). other than that, use all your OMC Marine stuff - starter, alternator, ignition, etc.

Answered my own question regarding the brass core plugs, seem to be relatively cheap. Is the gasket just the seal or an actual machined part that I am switching out? Is it a readily available part?

Ayuh,..... It's a one time use head gasket,.....

Search up Fel-Pro for a marine replacement,.....

I would have to check if the 225 and 231 shared the same head gasket. most of the other gaskets are not the same.

regarding changin: not hard, unbolt valve cover, unbolt rocker shaft and rockers, remove pushrods, unbolt head, remove old gasket, clean block surface, clean head surface, install gasket, torque to spec, install push rods, install rockers and shafts, re-install valve cover.

Thanks for all of your help. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me. Not a lot of information on this old engine and sterndrive outside of these forums.

The 225 v6 was based on the old "nail head" Buick V8 until tooling was sold to Jeep. Buick bought back the tooling and used the odd fire engine until 70s. The engine was converted to even fire and based on the more modern 310 V8 for the 78 model year. I Don't think head, intake and exhaust gaskets interchange between 225 and 231 (3.8) v6 engines.
