I've been searching around to find a decent fish finder/ depth finder for around $100. I have a 15ft high tide that I plan on fishing in creeks as well as the inlet. The main purpose I need it for is to look for holes up in the creeks or some rock piles just off the beach. No more then 50ft of water but mostly between 3ft-30ft. I was looking at the lowrance x4 pro as well as the Garmin 140 but both seem out of date. Any recommendations of a better one or a review of one of those two?

Next time in Walmart take a look at the Hummingbird units, They start around $100, ... you get what you pay for.. avoid CL as you often get, "gee it worked when I had it"... ebay likely ok.. have the Hummingbird 581 HD/ci now,, pretty happy with that unit.. those are about $300-400

Yea i know 100 bucks is pretty low but its my first fish finder. I dont even honestly care if it shows fish on it or not. I do a lot of duck hunting and fishing out of my boat so it's nice to know if I can jump outta my boat in the dark and know that it's only 2 feet deep. Also when I start fishing the creeks here, I'd like to be able to explore some holes and see drop offs. And figure out how far to drop the boat back so I know if the boat is sitting in the hole. That way I can set it up so I'm casting into the hole and not sitting in it. It looked like the Garmin 140 didn't have any bad reviews according to walmart and amazon. The lowrance x-4 pro seems to be more popular but it has several bad reviews, so I'm kind of torn about which to pick. But like I said if yall have any suggestions throw them out there.

If you don't care about fish finding you can get a Hawkeye D10 for under $100. Even cheaper on eBay.

Amazon.com: Norcross Hawkeye D10D Depth Sounder: GPS & Navigation

There is also this one

HawkEye Handheld Portable Depth Finder With Temp... : Target

I had the D10 on my RIB and it worked very well.

I see the Humminbird 143 at Walmart for $68.00 Is that a good basic fish finder/depth finder/ Temp gauge?
