My block doesn't have the option for a mechanical and the fuel tank is very difficult to get to. The electrical fuel pump will be 8'+ from the fuel tank. Is there a electrical pump with a plunger that will work?

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... With a plunger,..?? Never heard of sucha thing,....

There's several choices for pumps, some that can use the Merc fuel lines, mounts, 'n filters,....
You'll also have to get an oil pressure switch for the wirin' of the electric circuits,....
The fuel pump is powered from the starter, while starting, 'n through the oil pressure switch, when runnin',....

guessing you are doing a repower

Carter marine universal electric fuel pump. $85 (summit), oil pressure switch $20 (NAPA - see links in electrical forum), relay and socket $10 - newark or digikey

Thanks for help on wiring. Plunger is the way the mechanic that rebuilt my engine described it. He called it an electrical mechanical fuel pump. I need this because how far it will be from the fuel tank. To help understand why: I bought this boat as a repo from bank ofcourse cracked head replaced them then cracked block. Found block with same casting out of truck and put my marine parts in it. The truck had throttle body and wasn't machined for mechanical pump and the shop didn't had equipment to machine it.

That seems to be the case because I've looked everywhere. I'll have to rip a lot of interior out to get close to the fuel tank ig

Why?

Put the fuel pump on a bracket mounted to the stringer or the motor

Fuel filter before the pump

You are overthinking it.

Ayuh,.... The tank is generally above, or even with the pump, when the hull is in the water,....

I don't know. My tank is in the front of the boat 8 foot + from the motor and no doors to access. I will need to cut carpet and wood to get to it. Every electric fuel pump says mount within 2 foot of the fuel tank as does my machine shop. At this point Ig I'll try it 8 foot away and hope it works.

you are way way way way way way overthinking it.

the exact same carter electric pump is used as a priming pump on every dodge truck with a diesel and that pump is pulling thru 15-20 feet of hose and its pulling vertical 2 feet.

mount the pump at the back of the by the motor along with the fuel filter. wire it up properly with an oil pressure switch and relay and go boating.
