Looking for a gas can that automatically mixes oil and gas for 2-cycle engines??

Hello,

I have an older model (i.e. 2 stroke) 90 HP Johnson outboard and I'm wondering if there is type of gas or fuel container that has 2 separate reservoirs, one for the oil and one for gas that will automatically mix and regulate the mixture?

Right now, I have a 10 gallon gas container for my engine that requires a 50:1 mix and it's a pain every time I need to fill up for gas as I need to measure out the oil.

Does anyone know of any type of tank that has separate reservoirs where you can set the desired gas / oil mixture, i.e 50:1 that is available for purchase? I did a search online and was not able to come up with anything.

Thanks in advance!

I had one once, it was called Accu-mix (or something close to that). Mine came with a 1988 Johnson 15hp. The suggested ratio was 100:1 but, after some issues came up, they re-called the tanks and went back to 50:1. I'm sure you can find one if you look hard enough but, I'm not sure if you can alter the pre-set 100:1 ratio.

Never heard of such a thing. You can mix your fuel in a 6 gal can and then pour it into your on board tank.

i fully agree, mix your gas in a separate can, that way you know for sure that the mix is right ....i personally do a 50:1 mix, then add a bit more oil. plugs are cheaper than pistons!

I've been all through the Accumix era and none of them were worth a S***. OMC even used the same type of mixer on the 35 hp 3 cyl mtrs and they were no good either. If you haven't got a good working vro just mix your fuel 50:1 and be done with it. A pain in the butt is better than one in the wallet.

Ok thanks everyone... It looks like I'm out of luck and I will need to plan for 5 to 6 gallon fill-ups with the oil measured ahead of time.

Thanks

Just get a 6 gallon can, add a pint of oil and fill with gas, thats it. Don't even have to measure anything.

why does everyone find this so hard to do??
its simple 2.6oz of oil to a gallon OR for a 6 gallon can - one pint(half a quart) ... thats a little on the rich side but like has been said before ... plugs are cheaper than pistons
ive got a dedicated glass measuring cup for this purpose and i just dont see what the big deal is ...
my mako has two built in tanks one is 12 gallons (one quart of oil) the other is 30 gallons 77 oz of oil or 2 quarts and 13 oz
and if youve got portable is simple -fill it up measure out the oil for the gas pumped pour it in the tank shake tank DONE!! dont make a mountain out of a mole hill man

Just bring the measuring bottle with you. Put the gas in then the right amount of oil in the tank. The scale on the mixing bottle tells you how much to add.

I have yet to buy a bottle of 2 cycle oil that wasn't labeled with the different ratios and the proper measure for attaining those ratios....

West Marine sells a nice wide mouth canister which shows ratios for 24:1, 33:1. 40:1, 50:1 and 100:1. There are marks for 1 to 10 gallons.

I like it because it is wide mouth enough where you don't make a mess pouring oil into it or pouring the oil into the gas can.

Very handy and about 3 bucks.

Well, for a 10 gallon tank, just mix a quart in there and you'll be good. Simple as heck and a little extra oil will put you on the safe side.

For us canadians it's super easy. 200ml oil per 10 litres of gas, 500ml for 25 litres, 1 litre for 50.

I buy the larger 5 litre containers of oil and measure it out in one of those 1 dollar paint measuring buckets while fueling up.

I've been using the same "pre-mix" bottle for years. It has hash marks that allow you to factor everything from 10-1, all the way up to 100-1. Pretty simple; add 5 gallons, fill the oil to the "5 gallon" mark and pour it in. I'm like everybody else and always err to rich side of the line. I keep this and a funnel on board the boat in the event I need to add fuel while on a run. With a bottle, the only thing you have to trust is yourself.
