Hi Everyone. Something I've been looking for is information on bolts. Everything from types and sizes of threading used to the different materials bolts are made from. If someone has a good reference to a place that has detailed information on bolts, I would be forever indebt. Thanks everyone

Re: Looking for a good

Good Question Dallin! Thanks for asking.

For example...I just installed a Class V Hitch on my truck. It attached with the supplied bolts ...the type that don't thread together easily.....They take a lot of muscle to install...I suppose to keep them from vibrating loose.

What is the correct terminology for that type of thread? I've also heard of various "class" numbers being applied to bolts. Info on that would be appreciated.

OK Dallin.....back to the experts now...

Thanks for reading, Chuck

SK- Possibly NyLocks? The nut has a nylon insert at the end on these.

The net's handy, but if you want an old school approch there is an older book by Carroll Smith called "Nuts, Bolts, Fasteners and Plumbing Handbook". Over 200 pages, mostly geared towards the hotrod/fabricator. It covers darned near every fastening device on the planet. Dunno what I'd do with an Allen nylock Spot-lock socket-head cap screw... but I know what it looks like.8)

Check half.com or ebay, they may have one there. $18 new (in 1990)

-that nut on your hitch BTW is an elliptically offset elastic stop nut. (pg 104)

I got another name for 'em... but there might be kids looking.
