Looking for a good wireless adapter (usb) for wireless N and G.

Any suggestions for a really good quality wireless USB adapter (N & G) ? Just has to plug into a usb port. Most don't have antenna's, but I think having a port for an external antenna is a big plus. Its going to be about 36 feet away (straight line) from the wireless router. Router is on the second floor, so there is the floor, and two typical interior walls that the signal has to pass through.

There is only one other wireless router signal that can be picked up in the house, and that is from the neighbor across the street. That means there is a minimum of interference from other wireless systems.

I'm leaning toward the Linksys WUSB600N adapter, even though it doesn't have an antenna jack. About $60.

Any thing better?

Mark are you on a laptop or a desktop? I just put a new N card in my laptop and installed a new router and I am amazed, I get coverage basically anywhere I want to, at up to a speed of 300 Mpbs...been very happy, I paid all of $12.00 for the card for my laptop..

Back in the old days, I used a USB adapter from Netgear and it was a good one, I never had any problems with getting connected to the router anywhere in the house, but if I left the house, it was a no go..

I bought a Belkin N USB adapter. All it says on the box is BEST, no model #. It has a 4' cord and a desktop stand. Our router is downstairs and it shows excellent signal strength upstairs about 30 ft. away. It was about $60.

Its not for a computer, its for a Western Digital Media player (WD TV Live Plus).

Wow that is a good price. Even if they are refurbished units.

+1 on the Belkin. That's what we have, but paid $40 at Office Depot/Wally World.

The router I just installed about a week ago, is a Belkin, and I am quite pleased with it, if the rest of their stuff is as good as this router, I would say that is a good company to look at..

I thought most all Laptops had wireless capability??? I assume these USB adaptors are just for those that aren't?

Virtually ever laptop made in the last 5 years has a wireless card in them, my old acer had a g card in it and my current acer has a n card it in now, it came with a g card and I upgraded it...my old dell did not have a card in it, which is why I purchased a USB wireless, now I just finished rebuilding my grandsons dell and it had a g card in it..but now a days wireless capabilities is pretty well standard in all laptops..

Keep in mind that if your laptop is so old it doesn't have Wifi built into it, it might be so old it doen't even have USB 2.0. If that is the case you will not benefit from the faster speed of G or N, since you will be limited by the slower speed of your USB bus. Though if you have a slower internet like I do (1.5mbps), then you won't notice a difference in your speed since you will have a bottle neck on your internet connection. The only difference time you will notice an issue if you are trying to send or share information from one computer in your network to another. You may be limited at 1.5mbps or 12mbps if you have USB 1.0 or USB 1.1
