OK, I under estimated how little I knew about inboards after I already had one. Its a 5.7L Merc Alpha one on a 20 foot Wellcraft Elite.
I am looking for a good labeled diagram or picture of a stock 350 inboard engine. Basically I am trying to self educate on my boat. I have done a lot of reading on hear and my manuals.
The manual has a lot of very zoomed in pictures that are labeled in the maintenance sections, but not an overal labeled pic/diagram of the engine. Yesterday I couldn't tell you where the thermostat was on my engine, after some reading I now can
I had an issue with my engine running hot while it was idling an when I called a service shop they asked about a good outflow of water from the cooling system, I couldn't tell for jack squat where to look. From what I can tell now, exhaust and 'water discharge' is through the prop? I am familiar with the "pee stream" of outboards, but pretty uncertain with these inboards on LOTS of stuff.
Is there a Mercs for dummies book?
I also need to figure out what size and pitch my prop is
Resolve the Tach issue
Then assess if it's performing up to snuff. Seems to run strong. I had 53 gallons of gas and 8 people in the boat, 3 of which were 10 and under. Conditions were rough and I suppose I was getting about 30MPH.
