Don't forget, if you pull a boat/trailer that is beyond your vehicles capacity, you may open yourself to liability if you are involved in an accident. Especially if the overweight condition contributed.
Keep an eye on transmission fluid to be sure it's not overheating.
It sounds like you have a good match, but I agree w/ trailer brakes.

AveryJ, pontoons are not all that heavy, they just act like a huge sail going down the road. I used to tow a 21ft behind my Expedition. The guy that bought it from me called me after he towed it home and said it seemed heavier than his 4000lb boat that he tows around.

I think your choice of trailer may be the bigger issue. Float on will ride lower and reduce the windage. The drive on bunk trailers will give a higher profile and more wind resistence. This has been my experience anyway. And no matter what they say.. go with the tandem axle if using a float on.

Cooninco.. Make sure you are towing with the OD off. Excessive hunting of gears is bad. This may prolong your tranny life.

You might want to think about an aluminum boat, ther're much lighter. I bought a 20 Lund with a 120 on it, total load must be under 2000 lbs. Think my v6 Explorer Sport is rated for 2500 or so. I live less than a mile from the boat ramp and I now have an overheating leaky transmission!

Good Luck
