So yesterday I tested out my boat and WOT with the motor trimmed all the way down was 3500rpm. The boat has a 13x 19 pitch. Yesterday I had an extra guy in the boat and I was unable to get it to plane out with 3 of us sitting in the back of the boat. But I couldn't get the boat over 3300RPM's while under load. I am wonder what people are useing for props. Normally 25 gal of gas in the boat. My est. is approx 2,000 lbs total with equipment and persons.

My boat is a 2001 smoker craft 161, side counsel. I have a 90HP merc 4 stroke. The boat is used for fishing and recreational tubing, knee boarding, and skiing. My boat doesn't have much torque it feels like i should have more.

Also when I trim the motor up I can get it to about 4500-4800 RPM. I am looking to find a different prop.
Thanks for the help with recommendations on prop pitches.

Re: looking for a new prop

While your rpm is definitely too low we need to have your wot rpm and gps speed.
If you answer the Qs in the stickys at the top of the prop forum we can tell more about your setup.
A little research it appears a 16' with a light load and a 19" wot should be about 5900 at about 43 mph.
It would seem you have a motor problem or a setup problem.Could be as simple as the throttle not opening all the way.

Re: looking for a new prop

The motor was mounted on the last hole for the mount. I now moved it up a space and that gave me to about 3800, under full trim while taking off. Trimmed up on plane wit habout 520lbs in the boat my RPMS at WOT were about 5200 RPMS... The speedo said today about 48. which is to fast I will GPS it when I go out this weekend.

Also thinking about a plug change if I cna figure out how to get the bottom Bold out of the motor to remove the plastic cover.

Usually the antivent plate(just above the prop) runs best at about 1" above the bottom of the transom.
