I need to change the steering pin on my DP-SM because of wear. My Volvo dealer says the pin alone is not available anymore, that I need to buy the pin/bracket assembly which make it too expensive.

Is there another manufacturer making that pin?

Google the VP part number. I have found NLA parts on eBay. Often offering less than they are asking

Yes I tought about EBay but I'm afraid that a used part will have the same wear as mine. I will contact them to see if they can measure it. Thanks.

Your local machine shop would make one.----I would make it myself.
I can call. But I'm near Montreal, and machine shops here have high rates and lots of work.
Too bad I'm now retired, I had access to a machinist and a welder at my work before 'for free'. Ah the good ol days ;)

An OMC part may be identical because when they went into the Joint Venture with Volvo in '94, VP took the OMC Cobra transom mount and slightly modified it (the pivot housing part #76 in the diagram above in particular is different) but many parts, if not the majority are the same. I have bought a number of NLA OMC parts on Ebay and most have been just fine. A lot of them also had the same part numbers. Those hinge pins on mine are still good believe it or not. 38 years old. I really can't complain, all I have done to it, is a few seals (water pump seal 2x) the trim rams (not a hard job at all if you can get the end caps off) and the steering actuator (a big pain in the azz but only because the cotter pins they use to hold the mounting bolts in were hell to get out). Changed the bellows 2x, water pump every 3 years, that's it. 20+ years in the salt. It just takes regular maintenance pulling the drive each fall.
