Finally re-decked my 1988 Bass Buggy toon. Now I am getting around to working on the trailer lighting etc.
I need a spare tire carrier that will fit a 5 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern, leave it to Tracker Marine to use an odd bolt pattern. I can find the standard carriers all day, but none that fit mine.

Many of those amount to nothing more than a properly sized U-bolt that hold the tire tight up against the frame?

My thoughts exactly. Or a couple of threaded rods secured to the tongue at some handy spot.Bolted through or welded.
Of course the proper size U bolt would simplify.

5x5 bolt pattern is about 4 1/2" center to center on two holes. A 1/2" x 4" u-bolt should work perfectly

5x5.5 (5x139.7) is standard Dodge and Ford Truck and older Jeep size. Shouldn`t be hard to find if you don`t want to have it custom welded.

Thanks for the replies.
We were a little slow at work today so I fabbed one up in our shop. Had some scrap stainless uni-strut and all-thread rod laying around, welded it up and I am going to mount it this weekend.

Ha, nothing works better then making your own. I did the same thing with my spare tire holder and also made some locking holders so it can't be stolen off when out boating as well. You can look at it on my trailer link listed below.

That's a sweet looking rebuild! I do like your spare tire holder idea. I do have to do some work to my trailer this fall, replace the bunk boards, might look at adding an axle, so I may steal your idea for the spare. Great job on your rebuild.

Without a picture here it didn't really happen. I want to buy a stub axle and weld it to my trailer to mount my spare tire, wheel and hub.

Having spare parts like that a good plan. I like it! Of course having them handy like that almost a guarantee you'll never need them....

Ha, you can use the design. I don't own it, I just made that type for my trailer. It allows me to not only have a spare tire available, but also keep it locked on until I need it. I took one of the rims and cut a circle out of some 1/4" metal to fit perfectly in the center of the spare. Then marked the three places I wanted to put the threaded bolts. Once I welded them on, it fit like a glove. I have also installed a vinyl cover over it to protect it from both the sun and weather. That way it won't dry rot from the elements so fast... :thumb:
