Grew up around Evinrude's and they never let me down, but they were only a 9.5 and 18hp motors. Have been working on my Chrysler Boat and have 2 motors but one has busted block and the other has a 25 inch shaft and I need only a 20

Boat came with a 105 (Frank said it was basically a 90hp). I'm looking for about a 100 hp (full 105 would be good) motor with 20 inch shaft. Finding a late model Force would also be a plus because my cowling would fit on it.

Which one(s) should I be looking for so far as reliability?

Depending on vintage, an evinrude V4 would be fairly reliable, however I would drop a merc in it

Looks like the Rude V4 (115hp) weights 390lbs and the original Chrysler 105 was 240lbs. The Etec is 375lbs

At this kind of weight increase might look into 4 stroke

Where do you get these numbers?----A 125 HP V-4 Evinrude was listed at 252 lbs in the 1972 brochure.------In the 1990's the 115 HP Evinrudes were around 305 LBS.-----Newer E-tec Evinrudes might be around 390 lbs.-----My 1982 V-6 Johnsons 235 HP motors list at 400 lbs or so !

Sorry ---I do not need to do the google thing.----I know that older motors are often lighter than the new stuff.

Kind of
My original plan was to put the 125 on the 105 leg, but it uses the shear pin type prop and not sure I could get a prop with more pitch

The boat came with a 105 which was really a 90hp. It also had a fin on the drive which tells ya it need more power.

The Admiral wants me to get it going so me can go boating in the fall winter when weather is nice. If I could find a 20 inch leg with newer style prop, I would go that route. Been looking for Chrysler and Force but coming up empty

Don't want to put a jack plate on it to use the 25 inch leg, and that leg also has some issues

I did notice that after looking further before last post. Just don't see the big issue, its just weight thing.

If I could find a good newer style 20 inch leg on a Force I could install my 125

Without doubt. There just isn’t a better 2 stroke around this size, than the yamaha v4 series. 115/130/140. Downside is that most will know how good they are by now and they rarely come up for sale used. When they do...by god...they command serious money. Especially for a late model in the early 2000’s.
Also heard lots of guys say how good the merc 2+2’s are...but I don’t like the way they switch over. Always seems to be right at the rpm for making headway in the go slow zone. Always switching between 2 and 4. Maybe just me.

Will keep it in mind, thanks
Found a couple motors at a good price and going to go look at them Sunday.

If all else fails, I'm going to put my 125 motor on the 105 leg and then hope I can find other props with more pitch.

Evinrude stopped production of E-TEC and E-TEC G2 engines in June 2020 !!----There may be some still available at some dealers.

Probably can’t go wrong with a 2.0 merc v6 either. Not much difference in weight to most 115’s.
