Hello, new to this forum but it looks to be where I'll find my answers! Looking for help with engine year. ID tag on mount is worn and serial number is not legible. I've included a link with photos. Just bought this boat and anxious to get I going. I believe it's early to mid nineties but that's just a guess. Also, how easy are these to work on and are they pretty reliable once up and running? Don't know much about the two strokes. Plan on ordering a manual once I get the year figured out. Thanks for helping me out, I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get working on this thing! Thanks again

Look at the pics and it seems to be a 1994-95 engine.

There is a cast circle stamp at the engineblock somewhere and the year is cast in the middle of the circle.
Maybe the starter has a lable with serialnumber, but it does not has it always.

These engine is oldschool design from 70.es Chrysler, easy to work on and it does the work really good.
Your engine may have some stuff from Mercury design (ignition system, LU etc).

Spareparts are out there.

Could possibly be 93 - 95
Under the carb on the intake is a foundry stamp.
Lower trim cover below the bottom cowl on the stbd. side another foundry stamp.
The foundry stamp only tells when it was made and not the year it was used.

They made about 175+ different models of the 50 between 93-95
Most changes were only small changes like a different screw or fastener.
The hard parts are all basically the same, impeller and fuel pumps etc.

Thanks for the quick response guys. I'll order a manual and get busy. The starter is missing but I've seen plenty out there. I'll look for the circle, planned on pulling the carb to clean anyway sounds like shouldn't be too bad.
You guys helped a lot. Thanks again.
