I did a search and found nothing specific to what I'm looking for.

What gauge wire is going from the battery to the starter? I know there are two wires that go to the starter and I would like to replace both and all that I can to be honest. Right before I left the lake house I found my main cable from the starter to the battery switch was heavily oxidized and peeling back. I would like to replace it and the anything around it.

Looking for gauge info on the starter cable and the ground cable

Starter on what? 9.8 mercury outboard would be 8 gauge. Starter on a QSK78 Cummins would be 500MCM cable

it would help us to know what you are working on .

1998 Bayliner 2050LS. I have been having reliability issues with start up and keeping a battery charged. Before I left the lake house I got zero starting functionality out of the starter so I went on a hunt with the volt meter. I found more rust and oxidation on a lot of my cable connection. Spend a couple hours following the cable pathway sanding down a lot of connections. Some on my main cable seemed to have reached a temp hat slightly melted the cable jacket.

With melted cable jacket it was time to replace.

Also after sanding many connectors the motor turned over like a champ and battery charging was not an issue on the last day on the lake
