Re: Looking for opinions on depht finders.
Planks
I am not a big fan of HumminBird, but if it works ok when stopped and not when moving the problem is not the Depth finder. The problem is the transducer mounting. You do not say what type of boat or how the transducer is mounted. The bottom line is must get the transducer in clean green water when moving. Any air bubbles going under the transducer and it will not work. If you are useing shoot thru hull then no air bubbles between the transducer and hull and none under hull at that location. For transom mounts must be in green water, not lined up with a hull step or row of rivots. Most times right close to the speedo pickup is a good location. Aluminum boats sometimes have to go down 3 or 4 inches to get good high speed operation. You can buy a new unit but it will not fix your problem.
To recommend a new unit must know what you will use it for. Just finding depth, fishing for bass in water less than 50 feet or deep sea fishing in 400 feet of salt water.
With out that type of info can not reccommend unit, but brands I like is Lowrance in shallow water less then 150 feet or Fruno in deep salt water.
