I have a 1983 Mercruiser 898 with a 305 and a i/o mercruiser stern drive. I have a cracked block and decided that I want to upgrade to a 350 of same vintage while I have the engine apart. Does any of you experienced boaters recommend a place that I could find a high quality remanufactured 350 that will not be a huge hole in my pocket. Also, if anyone knows where I could find some exhaust manifolds(log style) for it too. Thanks.

Try Raul at Rapid O Marine

Good prices and reasonable shipping. I know a few people who bought from them and they're very happy.

Laddies... I would like to go to center risers but the cheapest I could find on net was for about $700 for kit.. do you know where I could find a cheap center riser kit?

Check Ebay on the riser style manifolds too. They pop up pretty often. There is a complete new 5.7 set for $469 there now, and a couple of used ooptions too.

Re: looking for reman engine

chilin, I had the same problem a few years back. I talked to some of the service folk in the local marinas and they steered me to a local machine shop who did most of the work for them.. They found a good short block, and built it with new parts, put it in the back of my truck and I put the rest of it together myself and installed it in the boat then had them check it out.. cost me 1300 bucks and a handshake..I think I got a fair deal and I like being able to stop in every now and then and say thanks to the fella who built it.... ;)

I just did the same thing. Upgraded from a 305 to a Jasper Class II 350 @300Hp. They have good prices on stock engines and they also have manifolds and risers available for them. I paid about $150 each side for new manifolds and risers which is cheaper than anyone else would sell the manifold or risers alone for.
