Here is the deal. For the past 12 years now my old dog has been roaming on my property and the two neighboring property's. Every one around loves her and they look forward to seeing her out every day. She never did any harm to anyone or anything. She is so old now she rarely ventures off my place much anymore. Now the problem. The one neighbor liked having her around so much she decided to get a dog herself. The dog they got is a male. He is a nice little guy BUT they allow him to run around and pee all over anything. He has peed on my trailer wheels now to the point they are rusting. Pees on my truck, pees on my picnic table pees on my garage, pees on my grill, I have tried to talk to the neighbors and they don't seem to think its any big deal. The other day I was washing my bike and he came over and pees on the bucket. His master saw this and he just said oh jeez. These people are not bad people but what can I do. I would never stoop to childish behaver like some others here have. How can I tell them to tie up their dog when my dog roams around herself. Is there any kind of product I can buy that will keep a dog from wanting to pee on something. This is disgusting and it needs to stop. I could care less if the dog spends every waking hour on my place so long as he doesn't pee on all my stuff. I usually am pretty good at these kind of things but this time I am at a loss. I am almost to the point of putting up some kind of small fence but I really dont want that.

There are a number of sprays and powders you can get to get the dogs to stay away from certain areas.<br />It suppose to be foul-smelling to them so they don't go near it.<br />I don't know how successful these products are, but might be worth a try.<br /><br />How about leash laws in your town? Most cities have them. I'd hate to do that, but if the neighbors have an 'I don't care attitude', then maybe a reminder of the laws will wake them up.<br /><br />I'd also think you could get them for damage to your wheels and whatever else the dog has whizzed on.<br /><br />How about a shock-collar? Will the neighbors let you do this? I bet it wouldn't take long to train him. ZAP!! <br /><br />H.

Your dog being old, and getting feeble, the new dog on the block is probably going around marking new claimed territory, and your old dog does not have the get-up-and-go to run him off. I would string up some electric fence wire around some objects he wets on a regulr basis, and it may shock him into different behavior, also fill a water pistol with amonia, and squirt him in the face immediatly upon marking an object, and he may get the idea (to anyone saying an animal should not be treated this way, it is better than killing them). :D :D :D :D

Water pistol full of lemon juice has worked for us.<br />Otherwise keep all your ash from the fireplace and the charcol from the BBQ. Once in a while go over and throw it over the neighbours lawn. When they ask what you're doing answer politely that your dog drops his rubbish over here so you'll drop your rubbish over there!<br />Failing that get an electric fence from a farming supplier, rig that around your boundry for a week. He'll get a few shocks but will learn quick. After the week you'll find that you can turn it off and the sight will do the trick. After another week just lay the wire on the grass and again he'll associate it with the shock and not cross. One more week later remove it altogeather and he'll be well trained. No more problem!<br />Ross<br /><br />PS failing all that just catch the dog and package him off to the guy with the troublesome neighbour on another post. It sounds like he could do with a dog bloody quick.

Why does everyone want to get into a "range war" with their neighbor?<br /><br />Just use the products available at pet stores that are offensive to the perpetrator. After a while the dog will get the idea and will associate certain areas with a bad smell-to him.<br /><br />Also, you may politely suggest that your neighbor get the dog nuetered. That takes away a great deal of their (dog) :D desire to mark territory.

Flathead, here is something that is cheap and works. web page <br /><br />I deal in dogs as in raise Rotts and Jack Russells and deal with these people all the time and this stuff works pretty good to keep the neighbor's dogs away.<br /><br />Just check it out.

Re: Looking for some advise.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of people who own dogs, shouldn't. If the dog comes over and craps or pees or digs in your yard, they say, "No big deal. Dogs do that."<br /><br />Usually they got the dog because it was cute as a puppy or "the kids need a dog" or they think they look good walking it. They let the dog run wild because, "Hey, he's a dog. He's got to run free." If you object, you're the one with a problem.<br /><br />Well, I could rant forever on this subject. Unfortunately, you have a double whammy because they figure they welcomed your dog on their property, you should welcome theirs. Dog ouwners develop a blind eye to their dogs transgressions and a deaf ear to any complaints from neighbors.

I'm with djohns, this dog has got to learn to squat!!<br /><br />Neutering does help, but you can't do that without permission.<br /><br />Have you tried peeing on your neighbors car? :) <br /><br />Quite a problem. Hard to take a hard stand when standing in a glass house.

Re: Looking for some advise.

Just ask the neighbor if they have any objections to you helping train the dog from doing this. Then get you something to swat him with you know not hurt just swat and he will learn not to pee on your stuff. Been there and done that still have good neighbor and pretty good dog also.

Re: Looking for some advise.

Finally some voices of reason! If you want to have good neighbors you must be a good neighbor. If you want good dogs you must be a good dog???  Wait, that's not right ... <br /><br />Working with a neighbor is better than fighting one. The offer to help train the dog and to explain what is happening. Let them know that you hope your dog is not doing that on their property. If he is, you can volunteer to tie him up or work together to teach BOTH dogs not to rust the trailer wheels, the grill, the porch, the trees ...<br /><br />Good luck, but my Grandmother always taught me that a little honey worked a lot better than a stick when it came to disagreements.

Thanks all for your input. I think I will try the stuff spinner linked me to first. I agree with djohns about starting a war with the neighbors,,for sure a wrong move, besides they really are nice folks. And if all else fails I will get the power washer out at 11:00 PM and see what I can do with that :D :D
