JB,

So far, this is the best place I have found...

Just making sure I didn't miss anything ;)

I mainly need a fuel gauge/sender, my current one isn't working.

But, I may buy a matching set and replace all of them..

Thanks!
Shawn

Or, You could Fix what you've got........
Rarely does the Gauge, And Sender go out Together....

If I could figure out which was bad, I could also go that route...

When I turn the key on, SOMETIMES the gauge goes all the way up past the full mark. SOMETIMES it stays on the bottom...I assume it's the sender, the gauge moves fluidly..

Thanks
Shawn

Shawn

Remove the sending wire from the gas tank and ground it to the engine block or a known good ground.
If the gauge goes to full, the sender is bad.

Re: Looking for various Online Marine Supply Stores

See you've already figured out Where to start looking....

Power goes from the switch, to the gauge, to the sender, to ground......

If there's power at the + on the gauge, Ground out the - on the gauge,+ the gauge will go to full....
Then Check the wire going to the tank.....
You'll need an ohm meter to check the sending unit....
But, Most Important of All is the Ground Wire from the sending unit to Ground.....
Good Luck...

Re: Looking for various Online Marine Supply Stores

I'll check it out when it warms up, and post up what I find. There are a few loose wires under the console, but most appear to be for a GPS unit that the owner removed before selling.

I've got a DMM that I can use to probe the wires, so that shouldn't be difficult. What am I checking for on the sender?

Thanks again
Shawn

You will need to remove the sending unit to test it. Mainly what you are looking for as you move the float arm, is smooth changes in resistence with one probe on the sending post and the other on the ground plate of the sender. If it jumps or falls off completly at a given point, it's junk. I'm betting you need a new sender. They are el-cheapo, too.

Rick,

I've seen a post somewhere about different 'ohm ranges' in senders, or something similar to that.

How do I know if the sender I am purchasing will work with the gauge I have?

Thanks for the help!
Shawn
