Hello,

I am currently looking at picking up a 1988 210 Classic. I am looking for peoples opinions on this boat. I am going to take a look at it in the next week or so. I know it has the Mercruiser V8, the original motor, that has about 600 hours on it. They have done some work a few years ago, the carb was rebuild in 2005, and the shift and throttle cables were replaced at the same time. It has new exhaust risers, a new water pump, and the outdrive works great. Also, the hull looks great on this boat. There are no cracks or signs of wear.

One or two of the issues they mentioned about the boat were that the motor runs a little rough, but it has been sitting for a few years and gets fired up over the summers a few times a year but it hasn't been in the water for 4 years or so. This could be fixed with a standard tuneup but the other issue is that it had began to run a little warm. Granted, the boat was running warm in his yard and sitting for a while but I was not sure if the tuneup and a quick once over of the motor might fix.

I was looking for peoples opinions on this model and also the motor. I've never had an inboard motor since the boats I grew up around were always outboards. Any info I can great would be great. I was having a tough time finding info online since most of the sites i found were ads to sell.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Looking into buying a 1988 210 Classic

I have a 1987 210 Classic myself. I have had some issues I have had to work thru with my motor (not original) as well as quite a bit of work ahead of me this winter with replacing the floor. I am also looking into changing the seating layout when I do the floor. I can't comment specifically on the engine issues, other than running warm I would wonder if sitting so long the water intake impeller in the outdrive may be worn out. They are considered a regular maintenance item anyway, so its probably due. Others will probably be able to help you more specifically with the engine, and you may also find more assistance in the I/O forum above this one in the main forum page.
Heres a link to my post regarding my boat. Several photos are linked in that post as well.

Good luck!
