Hey guys.I am looking to buy a 1989 Glastron Sierra 17 with a 75 O/B Mariner of that same year.I was just wondering of anyone out there had any feedback on this setup.how many hours does this engine last? The pictures on that the guy sent me look good, I still have to go there and check it out. This would be my first boat, and I am just looking for something simple to run around on the water with. If I want to do a compression check, how much do they usually cost? Anything else I should check for before I drive off the lot with it? Can this engine last a while longer, or is a 15 year old engine pretty much done? Thanks for the help in advance.

Since this is is your first boat I strongly suggest that you have a professional give it a going over to check it out. It will be money well spent.

Have no fear with a 15 year old motor if it has been properly maintained and checks out OK.

Also I would completely ignor all the wonderful things the seller is going to tell you unless you verify everything. We get to many posts from guys who come here with all kinds of problems and begin by saying that the seller told them that all it needed was a good tune-up and it turned out to be junk.
