I am looking at buying a new to me 15 ft Banshee with a Mariner 115 Buddy claims this engine was professionally stored / fogged 6 years ago but he has not used it since. What should I be on the look out for? Maybe some things I can check before I attempt to start it. I have a Milwaukee Bore Scope so would it be worthwhile to check the cylinders first for rust? It may fire up but a bit concerned about dry crank seals ect. Any help would be much appreciated.

Pull the spark plugs and spin her by hand. If she moves smoothly, the most likely issue will be dirt in the carbs. Hook up some fresh fuel and fill the carbs. Pull the main carb jet covers and try to flush out some dirt. Then put the flusher on her and fire her up. If she won't idle, clean and rebuild the carbs. New gear oil too.

Don't pay 'em good money for the rig unless you can hear the motor run. There may be other problems they haven't disclosed, or issues from storage.

It certainly couldn't hurt to inspect the bores with your 'scope, you might see a problem that didn't turn up on the compression check. Or, if you have suspicious readings on one or more cylinders, it's a good way to check them out.

If it does check out, plan on doing an impeller replacement right away, before putting the boat into regular service.

HTH & G'luck with the purchase.......ed
