1981 bayliner capri, immaculate all new interior/seats and carpet. has the 135hp 4 cyl volvo penta setup. dont really know a whole lot bout the motor and drive. the guy just put all new seals in $900 worth as a preventative. talked to the mechanic who did it. hes asking 3k for it which given the cond seems decent. ive always had an outboard so going to this setup little concerned bout getting parts if needed.

anyone maybe have this same setup or can give me a bit of feedback especially about the motor and drive, would be appreciated!

1981, must be the slant-4 Volvo motor w/270 drive. That combo came with my shiny new '79 Galaxy 17 bowrider... (shown off at Lake Powell with ex-wife #1, and my 2 kids who've given us 9 grandkids so far, which is partly why we now need a 26' bowrider! :) )

We really enjoyed that boat, and as far as I know parts are still easily available for that engine & drive...

I have a 1985 bayliner carpri with the Volvo 4 cylinder, AQ125a.... I paid $1500 for mine, but it did need some minor work. People can say what they want about bayliners, but I love mine. It is a freakin tank and Ive had it in some rough crappy water.
I would guess yours is in the 18 to 20 foot range because of the motor, mine is a 1950 capri cuddy.
All in all, $3000 sounds a bit high to me. If it is a low hour cherry, {maybe} If its coming from a marina/dealer then that sounds about right, that boat on craigslist would run around 1200-1800 around here.

Oh yeah, motor and drive parts are available. A bit expensive....when I rebuilt my engine, Ebay was a big help.....

$3,000 for a boat built in 1981 seems WAY high to me, IMO. What area are you in? If your budget is $3,000 I think you can do a lot better and get into the early 90's unless you are deadset on this boat. What's the condition of the deck, stringer and transom?

going to look at it today, so not sure on structure yet, im in iowa and for a ski boat in good to excellent cond, 3k is pretty average. the early 90's ski boats are goin for 5k here...prob a supply/demand thing

As mentioned above, check the stringers and transom VERY carefully. Did he put in a new deck along with the carpet???

make sure what the engine model number is, Bayliner used a lot of AQ125's in that time slot, which is a 115 hp motor. If it's an AQ145, then yes it is the 135hp version. Sellers tend to exaggerate the horse power sometimes or just guess that's what it is because they don't really know, but they know the GM 4 cylinder is 135hp.

While the windshield itself may not be a deal breaker - they may have just removed it because they always had it open to pass through to the bow anyway - you're right, it could be a sign of more issues.

That year of Bayliner was one of the worst for construction.......... very very prone to rot. Buyer beware!!!!!
