Hi,
I am really interested in a maxum as a boat I am looking to purchase. It is older 1990 2400scr. It obviously needs a little work but looking at it did not turn me away. It has a new 7.4 Merc with 80hours, unsure if the outdrive is original. The carpet is new. I think it really just needs a little TLC. Needs some upholstery work, but not too much as some was already done. It needs exterior paint and a gel coat (is gel coating even recommended anymore?) anyway. Any insight would be awesome.
I attach some pic. thanks
he is asking 6200.

No paint on that boat, it is all Gelcoat, which is what nearly all glass boat builders use.
I agree, it needs TLC and a good upholsterer.

CO_medic, I have zero info about if you've ever owned any type of a boat before, and that leads me to a few suggestions. And one of those suggestions is, don't let the nice new things determine if a boat is in good condition or not. Too many times sellers can cover up so much wrong with their boat when selling it and use the "let the buyer be warned" premises. New things will take your attention from a lot of serious issues so many time. You wouldn't be the first to buy such a boat and then have buyers remorse after finding out everything isn't as thought! I real good thread about that is friscoboater's boat deal. Just make sure that the floor, stringers, and of course the transom are not rotted even a little. Because those issues will take a lot of manual work and money to repair in order to have a safe boat. If you can search friscoboater's thread and read and watch his videos and then relook at your prospective boat and see everything from a different perspective. JMHO!

I don't mean to crap on your parade but you are looking at a boat that has worn the test of time and you seriously need to check it out thoroughly before you purchase it.

Yeah it has a new motor and new upholstery but you really need to check below the deck and look at this boats stringers, I second gm280's suggestion that you look up friscoboater's videos on youtube and get a quick lesson on the worst case scenario in purchasing a used boat.

25 year old boat, made of wood structure . . . It would be best to check out the guts of it a bit further.

How are you on the price? Does not seem too bad to me if they boat is structurally sound. I assume it has the bravo outdrive, considering it is a 7.4 liter engine.?
