A little more info on the engine you are working on would be helpful. I have installed a couple of the Pertronix kits - they are easy to install and work great.
I installed a petronix kit plus a petronix coil on my 1991 3.0L . No more points to worry about. It's been three years but I remember it to be an easy switch out.
You will probably have to reset the timing is all. No dwell, as that is points only. Advance is the weights and springs in the distributor and the kit doesn't change that at all.
I put in a Pertronix Ignitor II about 5 years ago. It is nice. When I did it I bought a their internally balisted coil for easier install and to upgrade. If you to with a Pertronix get the Ignitor II so that leaving the key on without running doesn't burn it up.
