hello, im thinking of swaping my 5.7 omc in my 25' bayliner flybridge to a 7.4 mercruiser. is this even worth the trouble? any other options or sugestions? boat feels a little underpowered, that's why i'm thinking about it. i have to rebuilt the engine anyways, so i figured dropping in a bigger engine. at the same time i don't want to go into $$$$. another question on my mind is gas, is putting a more powerful engine to push the boat even itself out? (achieving same speed with less rpm ultimately saving on engine wear and gas?) i need help here, any advice welcomed and thanked for in advace

You best think about posting some boat information and possibly a picture, need things like year, model, weight, etc.
What you want to do may not even be possible with your particular boat.......... Unless you have really deep pockets.
Any big block carbed engine, Chevy or Ford, is going to suck a lot more gas than a 5.7.

It may not even fit. Some of those bayliners have very little room in front of the existing 5.7L engine and the 7.4L is a little longer.
