Looking to work on my Mariner, but don't know year?

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I bought a 40 HP magnum Mariner last summer. Ran decently, but I want to replace the water pump and rebuild the carbs, for peace of mind.

But I don't know what year the motor is.. somewhere between a '90 and '93.

Serial number is:

OD 186673


Can anyone help me out with the year, and possibly link me to how you found out?

And if anyone has a link to a place to buy the water pump kit or carb kits for said motor, I'd appreciate it.

The service manual part number from Mercury you will want to order is 90-814676R 1 - 30 JET/40 (4 CYL.) - 1989 THROUGH 1997 MODEL YEARS.

You should be able to find what you need in here.http://www.mercruiserparts.com/
Or there is lots of other places to look up and order parts including here at iboats, They have a Big boating store.

So its a 93, but manufactured in 92?

boat does have 4 cylinders.. but theres no mention of it being a two stroke in the link..


Then the serial number is a different mystery.. sorry to make you guys walk me thru it...

go to www. mercuryexpress.com and log in. the computer will ask you your serial number. then it should come out you can even get an idea of what your parts cost new
