Looks like I ended up with 292's instead of 250's!

Thanks to Kenner for noticing this on another thread.

I knew this new-to-me project boat had rebuilt jasper long blocks from a number of years ago. What I did not know was they put 292's in in instead of simply replacing the 250's. All this is assuming my internet research is correct:

Casting number: 93403467
Location of fuel pump: center of block aft of unused automotive motor mount location
Side plate Height: 6"

So it still has 2 jet carbs on it which means they were never upgraded when they went to 292's.
My additional research says the Mercruiser 200 had 4bbl rochester's on it.

Other than replacing the carbs (may as well upgrade to electric chokes?) what else would need to be done to mazimize this new-found displacement? Props?

Doesn't make that much of a difference between 250 and 292 other then to identify it

Chokes - Elect or Mech no biggy, they work the same

Not enough HP difference to make any difference, remember the 250 and 292 is calculated hp and not prop hp

Get it going and in the water and then other things can be determined

the 250 displacement engine was rated by mercruiser at 165 HP
the 292 displacement engine was rated by mercruiser at 200 HP

Regardless it should be 15-20% more than what I thought if tuned correctly. I was going to rebuild the carbs but that seems like a waste now.

Yes. I will get it water ready first but just planning at this point.

I guess this explains why the upper bellows boots seem to barely fit. I guess I’ll have to fabricate an extension

After googling I cant find anything suitable. Ill cut up the bellows and make a reducer out of the small end
