I just acquired a little 6hp Johnson, I don't know what year but it has a white hood and the rest is green. The only problem I have found with it is that the steering is loose. You have to keep your hand on the tiller even when trolling. Is their an adjustment somewhere to tighten it up? The motor has not had enough use to account for a lot of wear and I can see by looking at the nipples that it has been greased.

Hunker down and look smack in the center, just over the top of the transom. See that screw? That is the steering friction adjustment. Screw it in till you get the "feel" you want.

Re: Loose Stearing

Thank you F R. Worked like a charm! I might have found it if I had taken it off the boat but never the way I was looking. Your help is greatly appreciated.
