I have a 1989 20 foot Celebrity with a V8 5 liter MerCruiser I/O. The problem I am having is that at approximately 4,000 RPM's (near the yellow line) the engine suddenly looses about 500 RPMs for just a moment and quickly drops to 3,500 RPM's. The engine does not shut off, it just looses power quickly and then goes right back to 4,000 RPM's. This will continue until I pull back on the throttle. However, if I run the engine at 3,500 RPM's this problem doesn't occur. <br /><br />Due to a cracked block, most of the engine is new. However, this problem did not occur last season with the old engine. My mechanic assures me that it is not related to the new engine.<br /><br />I thought that it might be fuel line related, so I changed the water/fuel separator and cleaned the in-line carburetor fuel filter (screen). This did not correct the problem. <br /><br />Do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.
