Hi all,

I purchased a boat 2 years ago with a raymarine e80 screen, DSM 300 sounder module and thru hull airmar b164 transducer. Fantastic soundings at all speeds and at depths up to 80m. I've been going further out lately and started to notice that I lose all info after I go deeper than 80m, drifting or going over slow. Heard about issues with the dsm 300 module so I got a new CP370 from raymarine. No difference. It's 1kw setup so it should do 500m easily. I've increased ping speed, changed from 200 to 50hz, left it in auto settings, turned it off, reset settings, increased gains. Have I missed anything. The depth display just flashes and shows nothing until I go shallow again.
Any ideas???

80 meters is pretty much the limit of most consumer grade electronics

How old is the transducer?

Are you sure the head unit is setup for 1kW output?

if you run slow. at any appreciable speed the boat moved out of the return signal cone

I guess it depends on what you consider "slow".

The theoretical limiting speed of the B164 transducer in 200 meters (652') of water is 66.9 mph.

I can only vouch to @ 40 mph....

What depth range do you have it set at?
some systems dont do well in auto unless its gradual slope.
if you leave your depth range in manual, can you find the bottom when you select the scale?

Could you be moving into water that is a lot deeper than what you think it is?

A few years ago I did some rough calculations on out racing the return signal, the boat speed required was in the order of a couple of thousand somethings? (Km/H,MPH,Knots) Can't remember exactly but way faster than any boats is going to go.
