Good morning, I have a 1999 Volvo 3.0GSMWTR 135 Hp that lost all power to the dash when I was starting it. The trim is the only thing getting power. I pressed the reset fuse button next to the key ignition but nothing. I really need the bilge pump to work today due to heavy rain. Thanks, Dave

Electrical gremlins happen. What kind of boat do you have? If you have checked all of the fuses and breakers, you'll need to start testing with a multimeter. If you can get behind the dash, there's probably a bus connection feeding all the circuits. Check for 12v there then work your way back.

If your bilge pump becomes an emergency, you can feed it from a cordless drill battery until you find the problem.

Bet it's a ground issue. However there is probably a main + feed for the dash coming off the ignition switch. It most likely has a fuse. Check each wire to and from the ignition switch carefully. A loose terminal is possible. Go slowly and logically. Don't jump around from place to place that will just cause confusion. Eliminate each wire or ground circuit one at a time. Its a process but it will work for guys who don't have a lot of experience with this. A test light and a volt/ohm meter is helpful if you're familiar with them.

As others mentioned it's probably a ground or the 20 amp fuse behind the dash. Now your bilge pump should be wired direct to the battery thru a fuse or breaker. The bilge pump should and needs to be this way incase the main breaker blows, or the battery switch (if you have one) is turned off. Trace the wires back to where they go. Below is a link which shows how the pump should be wired up. If your pump has three wires coming out of it then it should have the float switch contained inside with the pump.

There are breakers on your engine that feed the circuit that gets sent to your dash. Not sure exactly where that are on a 3.0.

Ayuh,..... 'n a '99 might be new enough to have a Lawyer Fuse where the battery wire attaches to the starter, like the newer Merc's,...

I was looking at the service manual for the model one year before his and that one only has the breaker. I don't think Volvo ever did those.

I think I have a set of BY manuals on my computer at home that I can check later. There are some online too.

Here's the electrical system manual for your engine. It will probably come in handy for you, and it has wiring diagrams in the back.
