I have a 2008 Carver 36 SS with twin Volvo 8.1 L engines. On my last outing the starboard engine accelerated normally, then the RPM slowly rolled back to 3100 and would not accelerate to more than that no matter what the throttle setting. If I came back to idle for a few minutes it would accelerate normally again and then I would get the same RPM roll back. The port engine operated normally.

Re: Loss of power

Makes me think of fuel starvation, multitude of reasons for that. What have you done or changed, when was it last serviced, when was the last fuel filter changed. Or should we just keep guessing.

I was thinking along the same lines. Last serviced about 60 hours ago. Thought I might try changing fuel filters first.

Re: Loss of power

Sounds like it went into protection mode.

Also could be one of the fuel pumps has failed or relay controlling it. Change your filters but then make sure both pumps are on and/or do a fuel pressure check.

I wonder what year Volvo stopped using the exhaust flappers. Maybe one of those dislodged into the exhaust tube.
