I Have a 2000 Slyvan 196 sport with a 4.3 gm serial ol63432either395 cant really tell alpha one drive 0l717822 i have been through this boat new plugs wires dis. cap starter and ign solenoid, also replaced water pump and had to clean the carb seems to run great on the muffs but in the water my hole shot stinks and my top end is poor to say the least, also when i cleaned the carb i set it back to factory like the sealock manual states, also the carb sweats pretty bad on a side note how can you check if your temp sending unit is bad or if its the guage ive allready changed the tstat. thanks for and info or suggestions you all can provide.

Re: loss of top end power and hole shot

Do you have any history as to previous performance with this boat? What type of performance are you getting now? Top Speed? GPS? RPM? Performance on muffs doesn't mean much other than starting and not missing.

Overheating? Is that why you changed the T-stat? You can get a A cheapo IR gun to check temps everywhere. May need more than one thread if you have more than one problem . . .

Go up to the Adults Only section ^^^^^^ and look at #3 and #12.

At 9 years old, your trim gauge problem is probably due to the deterioration of the sender and it's wires. Not a simple fix. I would yank the gauge and replace it with something useful like a depth finder, vacuum gauge or even a clock would serve you better.

Manuals (real FSMs) are available in adults only section, so throw away that seloc, it is junk.

Sounds to me like a fuel issue....check out the adult section as previously mentioned....when was the last time you changed out your fuel filter and water separator..??

Re: loss of top end power and hole shot

thanks for the replies and suggestions i got this boat last year and had no issues with the temp guage, but did have major issues with getting it started and unsmooth accel. i used be able to top out around 50mph around the 3800 rpm range so the guages said lol as far as the fuel filter/ water separator yes i forgot to mention that i changed that as well and cleaned the filter on the fuel line to the carb. I did have it in the water yesterday and thats when i noticed the loss in preformance and I do agree its a fuel issue but havent a clue to how to fix it I thought that changing the filters cleaning the carb. and setting it back to factory would fix it the previous owner had the set screw all the way in I believe to compensate for the dirty carb I will check the sections advised to and see what I can find out. Sorry forgot to answer question on preformance now... I have to go almost full throttle just to get up on plane and trimmed out i get like 39-42 mph @3800 rpm I admit my speedo might be out of whack but I know for sure I had a better hole shot than that last year

Your tach and/or speedo are wrong if what you posted is what you are seeing . . . ;)

Ayuh,... I'd run a Compression,+ Leak-down Tests,....

That sounds like a pretty Sick motor...

Re: loss of top end power and hole shot

Thanks guys for all you ideas well I think I found some of my problems...wont be able to tell for sure yet.. started her up yesterday on the muffs and noticed she smelled real rich to me so I again set the idle mix screw back to the 1 and a quarter turns out thank you adult section for the proper manual lol. I also adjusted the high speed mix with a adjustment on the control arm setting from the throttle cable to the carb, prolly not the proper name but I think you all will know what I am talking about. Two quick questions prolly dumb ones that I allready think I know the answer too but I would like your guys input as well, when I replaced my tstat I had read misinformation on my motor and put in a 140 when the mercury manual calls for a 160 correct me if I am wrong but a cold motor will not operate as well as one up to temp correct? As for my problem with no water temperature read out I replaced the sending unit that goes in the Tstat housing and I still have no read out on guage starts at 100btw..I am assuming the next step is to replace the guage and if I do will any ole guage work or do I need to pull and bring it with me to be sure..these are prolly dumb questions but this my first year working on my own boat thanks guys
