I have a 94 rinker 180 with a mercruiser 3.0. I was out riding around today and after a few minutes of idle speed i hit the throttle to take off and after the initial kick it basically jumped into neutral. so i can idle around but once i try to take off either slow or fast it will act like it slipped out of gear. ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE??

Thats what i am hoping the problem is, BUT if i put it in gear with the engine not running should i be able to turn the prop by hand? because i did that last night and it will turn only one direction and you hear a slight popping sound and it has a slight catch, the popping sound seems to be coming from somewhere inside the drive

Pull the prop and try the shaft for turning. It should turn a short amount then feel metallic contact. That would be the sound in the case that you hear turning the prop. While it is off inspect the prop rubber for damage or a dark stripe close to the inside ring. That would be a likely point of shear. Then take it to the prop shop for the final say.
