1986 Evinrude 140hp

Was conducting a warning horn test by grounding the tan wire to the engine block with the key in the "on" position.

Upon touching the block, I got a bunch of sparks for a second or so, then nothing. The horn never did sound. Now however, I have no power to anything. No T&T, no starter, no nothing.

Have I blown a fuse somewhere? I'm in the process of reading through my manual, but see no mention of a fuse anywhere so far.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Yes, there is a fuse. Look at the wiring on the port side of the motor. You will see a torpedo looking boot, usually red, sometimes black. Pull it apart and you will find a fuse in there.

You apparently did not ground the correct wire or you touched something other than the engine block.

Thanks guys...

Found the fuse...it actually separated into two pieces when I pulled apart the torpedo cover. Heading out to find a new fuse momentarily.

Upinsmoke...I was thinking the same thing....the sparks kind of puzzled me. I was grounding the tan wire that leads the temperature sensor on the upper starboard cylinder. I tried to ground it to the the cylinder cover on a spot that didn't have paint on it. Would that have been my problem?

Cheers.
