Hi

I apologize for my bad english but I hope you can help me.I dont want to name any parties yet,as they still have the opportunity to do the right thing.

Ordered a 4.3 longblock with oil pan, timing cover, spark plugs, edelbrock manifold and edelbrock 1409 600cfm carb. All the parts were supposed to be assembled and shipped in sealed wooden crate. The shipping was done so that it was shipped from the builder to a international shipper who is a friends relative, they put it in a container which was shipped to Finland where me and some custom officials opened it up,the crate was unharmed and there was no signs of it ever being opened.Yet the carb is missing,it could never have been assembled because of crate height, the builder admits it and sez that it was in a box next to the engine inside the crate.

The container was full of the shippers cars and parts(car importer) and it was not opened before the customs in H?meenlinna,Finland. The shipper is a friends relative who also uses them all the time, the shipper also have very good reputation.I have a hard time to believe they would try to screw me over.

The builder sez he can prove the carb was in the crate,he has a picture.A picture that he wont send to me although I asked him.He said the carb was in a box next to the engine, after that I pointed out that there was a box with bolts and spark plugs next to the engine he quit answering my emails.

So my big question is,is there anyway I could pursuit the carb/get a refund.Any american officials that could help me with this problem. The carb cost 349usd,and I actually had to pay tax and customs for it when I declared the engine.I cant prove anything, but I am almost certain it was never put in the crate.

Shipping the engine to Finland by sea cost 130usd so you can quess if they have any insurance.

Well you are in an unfortunate situation that is not likely to get resolved in your favor should the supplier chose to not cooperate.

I really dont know of any agency here that could help you with something like that. I think the best bet is going to try and get the supplier to send you one out...I personally would try to contact him again and be nice. tell him you are sure that it was not in the crate...It could be that an employee of his maybe forgot to crate it and is now afraid to tell the truth to his boss. (i hate employees that do that by the way).

Maybe offer to pay shipping and see if that helps....

Although I-Boats probably wont let you do it ....if all else fails go over to THT and name his company and beat the crap out of him.:D

Did you pay by credit card ??.
If yes dispute the charge for the carb, I would if it happened to me :)

Sorry, but as this was a private transaction there is not much you can do except file a lawsuit against him. It would be the same thing over here also.

Hi

The payment was done by the shipper(friends relative).I will start calling on monday to try to sort this out.Im going back to study in a month which means no more money to buy carbs/time to deal with this. And I really want to get this boat finished. The builder is very uncooperative about this situation, and blames everything on the shipper.

Only thing left to do if everything goes to hell is share my experience on all boating forums. He can try to sue me all he wants.

I cant believe how cheap/unreliable things are nowadays.I actually have besides this carb another 700usd worth of parts lost, but that I can pursuit if they dont show up.This carb issue is a lot more complicated.
