yesterday, out doin what i do on a lake 110 miles from home --had my old "never fails" 85 hp jonnie doin what it's done forever &------on the way in she decided to shut the ignition off or whatever just shuts you down to be dead in the water---didn't have any ignition troubleshooting devices onboard soooo--- tried to crank with not even a pop on any cyl ---squezzed the bulb---no help---pulled cover& cked for heat & all seemed to be normal--- made sos call to buddie at camp for a tow--fished with the wind with what bait i had netted and saw him headed west a mile from where i was ----hit the key and it cranked--- headed in the direction for the ramp & made it all the way in--- needed to pick up jugs today i had left yesterday so went out today and she had two fainting spells ---seems if after her spells a little cooling does a trick on moving or not--thought fuel at first--but have maybe had to rethink ignition--I HATE INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS--theres probaly no way to recreate at the house on muffs---any thoughts?

I would suspect power pack. If you check it while it is acting up you will find you have no spark. Once it cools down it works again. I have encountered this before.

Weak ignition components tend to fail once the engine heats up to normal operting temps. May run fine when cold. Your engine has some expensive components, so you may find some troubleshooting is to your advantage in the long run. If you are able to work your way through electrical problems, you will find this troubleshooting information worthwhile: checkout this website: cdielectronics.com Unlikely that all 4 coils went at once, so check out the power pack, timer base and the stator.
