lost HP

new to me 1997 celebrity 190. 4.3lx 2 bbl w/ 14 1/4 21 prop. Problem is I only get 4100 rpm T 43 MPH. SHOPS TELL me this is wright prop and should be in WOT range of 44-4800. said when i find lost hp will find rpm. What are other people running with this rig or this set-up? Wher do I look for HP loss? any help is greatly apreaciated.

First thing you need to look at is the accuracy of the tachometer. Hook up a shop tach and see where the rpms read. If the rpms are still low then you might consider a tune up if this hasn't been done recently. If the spark plug wires are still original then you should check them out as well. <br /><br />Also, when you pull the plugs check for any water on the plugs.<br /><br />Hope this helps out some.<br /><br />JP
