Re: Lost my prop and everything else.......
I was just wondering if im missing anything else so this never happens again. Thanks
I know you just laid out money for your lost prop but since you asked my suggestion is you also buy yet another prop, nut and tab washer and a a prop wrench. And stow those onboard for another emergency like losing another prop (less likely if you bend the washer tabs up that help to lock the nut in place, like the other poster said).
The extra prop was the first accessory I bought shortly after I bought my rig. You are more likely to hit an nd underwater obstruction and damage the prop or have it swiped than have it fall off again. And without a "locking" prop nut, it is easily stolen. . . I use a transom support that has a bar that also locks the prop onto the O/B. Props can be swiped at restaurants, motels, your backyard etc. Takes a few seconds to remove one with a prop wrench. Especially, expensive stainless steel models. To buy a replacement prop in an emergency like from a marinia they get you for BIG BUCKS too.
I bought the spare with a different pitch then the OEM one. Carrying a spare allows me to not blow a holiday weekend of boating if I damage one. By the way you can send a damaged prop out for repair on the net for like $30 plus $10 return shipping. I've done it 3 times for two different boats over the years.
Depends on how big the waters are that you boat on but I don't want to damage or lose a prop 20 miles from the dock so I always carry a spare. Trolling motors won't take you that fast or far especially if the battery has been run down already. And if it's getting dark, you are really screwed

. . . Spare prop = cheap insurance. Great birthday gift from a spouse or girlfriend for the guy who has everything
