lost neutral & reverse on my mariner 150

Apon my fishing trip 8-5-12 unloading the boat from trailor reverse worked. But when was out on water noticed when went to start boat up it was engaged in forward. Tried to put in reverse but reverse was not there. Could this be a cable issue? Or am i looking at gears possibly having to be replaced. Goes forward from the neutral postion also is this something i can fix myself or be better to take to marine mechanic

Could be a control box issue, a cable issue, a connector issue, an adjustment issue, or a shift linkage issue. Need more info. Do the linkages move at the engine when the control is moved?

I checked the cables on the engine they are working

I did notice when i put it in reverse the prop spins freely
