Hey folks,
My dad taught me in mechanics 101 to always to block any sort of hole that allow a part to fall into it. I know this but sometimes issues happen.

I was installing a rectifier on top of my block when i heard what sounded like a part. (screw, nut or washer or something) fall down into my water chamber. I never saw it but I heard it.

I don't want to take any chances with this but I also can't just flip the power head over and shake it. I've dropped a magnet down into the chamber and came up with nothing.

Is it possible the part has fallen down into the water tube coming out of the lower unit? is there any chance this part could get flushed into a location that will damage the motor? Is it possible that I could flush this part out some place?

I have not pulled the lower unit off yet.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Curious as to what you might be missing... nut, screw, washer, what? No need to pull the lower unit as there's no way anything small (or large for that matter) could possibly get to the water inlet area..... that water jacket is way beyond that point.

Whatever it was may work its way up to the thermostat area... I say "may" as I don't remember the exact water flow route, however, in all probability, it'll be blown out with the exhaust & water thru the propeller. I wouldn't be concerned about it.

Anyhow, whatever it was probably fell unobserved outside the engine, hit the prop, and flew over way behind your work-bench... that's the kind of luck I have anyhow.

I'm pretty sure it is the flat head screw that holds the timer base locking plate down. The locking plate is there but the screw is not there. I'm assuming that is what it is. I'm actually in my driveway and have been keeping it clean just for fallen parts.

So you don't think there is anyway a screw and work it's way down to the water pump? the only other option is to work up to the tstat.

i'm going to drop a magnet in there and trim it up and down and try to move it.
