lost spark

so i have been fighting a differant issue and when i went out to play with it today i am not getting any spark out of the coil.......


what i have done.........
-changed coil with a new one
- -still nothing
used test light to check power and ground
- got power (purple wire)
- got ground
......now i tested this last night and i noticed that the light brighter on the ground side then on the power side

when i gap the points i do a blue arc in the gap. what i am missing?????please lead me in the right direction as i would like to get one more ride in yet this season

What kind of motor are we working on? It's hard to tell what's wrong without knowing the type of ignition system you have. Is it the 140 hp merc in your signature?

How old are the points? If over a year old, you probably need new ones. Plus the condenser, cap, and rotor.

sorry i should have put this in on my first posting......

i do not have any spark coming out of the coil its self.....check it by sticking scewdriver in wire method)

i also changed out the starter sylonoid to fix a differant issue

i plan on replacing cap rotor points and all that when i de winterize and it does have new wires and plugs as well

The points are what gives you "spark out of the coil". The fact that you have spark on the points with the feeler gauge when setting (Why is the ign. sw. on when you are trying to adjust points ???????).

I think you need to look at this thread and download the file learn how the points system works.
