hey guys I recently bought and installed a 1999 mercury 125 Hp outboard. when I first hooked it up the choke was working fine. now when I push the key I do not hear any click and assuming that the choke is not working. I have had the controls apart several times and have not noticed any loose or disconnected wires. I am hoping someone can tell me what my problem might be, fingers crossed that it is a fuse or a loose wire or something. also I am NOT even sure what component on the outboard controls the choke. can anyone tell me what I should even be looking at? What is it that makes the clicking noise when you push the key? Thanks in advance for any help James

come on guys I know someone out there has to have some idea what the cause of my problem could be. I really need some help on this one, & I honestly don't know where else to go but here. Even if you can't speak to what might be wrong with the choke if you could even explain what happens when I choke the motor it would give me a better idea of where to look. I honestly don't even know what component on the motor controls the choke. I will take any ideas even bad ones lol thanks guys

I think you have a primer and have you had the motor started at all. If you have a primer take the airbox off and look inside the carb and press the button and see if you can see gas shooting in. If you have a choke with the airbox still off the front butterfly should move when the button is pushed.

When you check the primer make sure the throttle is open so you can see behind the throttle butterflies.
