The oldest was just shy if 17 years, gone in the end of Jan. The next was 15 and a half, passed in June. And now the youngest, an offspring of the first two. Watched him being born just over 14 years ago, saw him to the end yesterday eve. He will be missed. Tough time at the house this weekend.

Re: Lost the last one

So sorry to hear of your loss. They are truly members of the family. Our last border collie was seventeen and a half years old when we had to put him to sleep ten years ago and our first beagle died of congestive heart failure when he was 10. Current beagle is 3 and the current border collie is almost 10. We just hope the border collie has many years left like the last one.
Once again condolences to you from the Kenmyfamily.

Re: Lost the last one

Condolences to you and Beauregard's family. Sending healing mojo as we to know too well the hurt of losing a family member. Drew{short for drooler -pictured below} was only 9 when cancer took him from us last month. He was the third loss for us in 22 years{of marriage}. Scooter{another lab/shepard mix} gave us joy and comfort for 15 years, Spunky{peekapoo mix} for 21 years. Still have Kato{lab/shep/dalmation mix 4yrs old} here with us. We know there is nothing we can offer that will help ease the pain, but the great memories they leave behind, never pass...one thing we've done that somewhat helps is to take all the photo's we have of each and make a seperate slide show. Sure it will bring up sad emotions but at the same time..ahhh, the stories that come flooding back................if only people were as loving and loyal.....peace be with you.

Sorry for the loss. I am a cat person and lost my college buddy a few years back.........yes she was over 20 yrs old. It is difficult to get new pets because you expect them to replace your old ones but they come with new personalities.

Good Luck

Re: Lost the last one

When I have had to deal with this I reflected back to the life of my pet. I asked myself several questions..like "did I care for him"? Did he enjoy life and get the attention he needed? Could I have made things better for him? Was he loved and did he know it by returning love?. Did he live a full life.? Its ok to miss him and just think your love for animals is a great thing to have and it will not go away just because one animal died, You can continue to share it with other animals that need you just as much as your pet did. You can cry thats ok but you will also smile when you know you did right by the pet..If you can give a donation to your local humain society in honor of your pet. My avatar is our lastest rescue .She was born to a feral cat and abandoned by her mother becaue she has a birth defect (deformed nose) .She now has it made.

Sorry for your loss LT. Their like our kids.:(
I found comfort in this, when my last one left.

IN LOVING MEMORY

God saw you were getting tired
And a cure was not to be.
So He put His arms around you
And whispered, "Come to me".

With tearful eyes I watched
As you began to fade away.
Although I loved you dearly
I could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating.
Strong, soft paws came to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He takes only the very best.

My condolences.

[SIZE=+1]Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sorry man, Lost my baby last year, she was 17, I have 2 more that are 16 now, Its comming again and I know it. I blieve it is worse than loosing a family member, You get so atached as they are totaly dependert on you. Few friends of the human persuasion are as loyal. Sorry again for the loss and my late response.

Re: Lost the last one

When this post was started I gave my thoughts about this. I had no idea at the time my 9 year akita named YUMYUM would soon be very sick and have suspected cancer. It is for sure one of the hardest things I have ever had to deal with, We got her as a rescue when she was about 6 weeks old. Wife brought her home in a shoe box for me. I had just retired on medical disability and have had her close by for 9 years. She is getting the best care money can buy but Im afraid its almost over...Thanks for reading and thanks to all other animal lovers who care about all of their pets..
