1999 DT225 - I can hear the motor run so my assumption ( hate that word ) is that the fluid level is down. Dexron ll or lll for replacement ???
Anyhow, I'm going to need to throw her on the trailer to do the repairs so how do I get the motor UP enough so I don't cause a serious case of concrete rash on the lower unit?
There is a manual overide screw that I could open to let the motor down if necessary but will it also work if I open it to muscle it up as well?
What next, eh ? Thanks for any input.

Did it just stop working in one hit? When the fluid goes low normally you lose the down first then the up. I don't know of a way to raise it but I would try to get some fluid into it before putting on the trailer

Thanks Ian,

Impossible for me to put my fat arse on the transom and undo the fill screw. It would place it underwater. Rather have nothing in there compared to saltwater.
However, just got a call from my ole' buddy who said I could use his boat hoist to pull it straight up on the slings. Might be able to get enough fluid in there to pop it back up enough to get her on the trailer. Now I just need to be 20 years younger to do it. Ha !!!!!!!!!!

Back out the manual relief screw 1.5 turns, NOT MORE. They use a free floating seal arrangement in the trim pump relief valve that falls out if you screw too far out.If that happens the pump system has to be removed, or the boat tipped on its side to get the little buggers back in. With the relief valve opened, with a little grunting, you can heave the motor up. When you have it up close the valve. Some motors call for the motor to be in the up position and others the down to fill with oil. Don't know in your case. It is unusual for these systems to need topping up. The failure is probably due to a bad relief valve seal or, as I found in one case, a seal actually missing.

James,
Thanks for the input. As of now I did manage to get some pump fluid in there but it leaked out within 30 minutes. Called the ole' $95.00 an hour mechanic and he said it was a two to three hour job to replace all four seals and it should be good to go. Oh well, another $300.00 or so of my boat bucks gone !!! But the weather has been near perfect and I'm really trying to get out this weekend - not gonna' catch anything but still want to try!!!
