ok. this is my first boat. did research, learned about a boat. wht's a hull , I/O, OD everything. i have been looking around. i found one. it is in excellent condition. interior is good. everything works fine. its a 70's model boat 22 feet(i think) ford 351 engine. the good part is i am getting it for 1200 bucks. an old man owned it. getting rid of it. the bad part is....... alright i will be as specific as possible.<br /><br />when you turn the stering wheel the outdrive turns. right! on top of the outdrive there is a gear. now i can see the gear that turns the outdrive. small circular ring shaped gears that have teeth. ok now the thing is that the gears are worn out. and they slip. so it causes a play in the steering wheel. to me it seems like is a 25 dollar part. but a mechanic told me that i have to buy the whole damn kit that costs 800 bucks. i got pissed off and i left. i can see that i might have to pull the engine out and replace these stupid rings but thats fine to me. i can do that. help me out. i am going boat carzy. email me at xusmanx@hotmail.com and i will send you pics and maybe a small movie clip to help you understand wht in the world i am talking about. <br /><br />thanks
